Celebrating milestones and achievements is vital in your classroom. Having a few regular forms of celebration are also important, for instance I have a 'happy dance' that can be done on my own with no music OR whole class with music for a minute. It depends on the celebration!
Sometimes you need an over the top celebration for a milestone that has been weeks in the making! Other times a fist pump, high five or 'air guitar' performance as a non verbal signal that you are proud of the achievement is all that is necessary.
Nonetheless, celebration to recognise achievements and milestones is important and you should plan how to incorporate into your classroom culture.
TIP - Creating a matrix with 4-6 options for your students to elect or opt for when celebrating an individual is a great way to support all the different types of personalities in the class. I have seen this work for classroom welcomes as well (which are floating around the internet at the moment).
