I have found this tool to be really engaging and successful in a lot of areas within teaching. Let me share how I do this!
1. GETTING TO KNOW STUDENTS
I ask students to create a MindMap with their face or drawing of themselves in the middle and around the outside they are to use words to describe themselves. I always model first and have the students describe me and record on the board. Using the Word Cloud is an option for the students with writing difficulties + an option for those who would like to use this option. I have also done this with students and published a class book.
2. COLLECTING STUDENTS PRIOR KNOWLEDGE
I will pull this up on my white board / laptop and record all the words about a new concept we are learning in class. It is then a great refection tool that I can use to adjust the lessons/ activities and curriculum based on the results.
3. REFLECTION TOOL
At the end of a series of lessons or unit of work, I use the Word Art tool as a strategy to collect student's reflections and learning. I have used this in small group reflections, whole class reflection and individual reflection.
I would love to see how other teachers use this in their classrooms!
